This beautiful Daufuskie vacation home, the Daufuskie Cottage, is one of only two 3-bedroom cottages currently available in the Melrose cottage community. Designed by its architect-owner, there are many upgrades and special touches you simply will not find elsewhere.

Even better, the owners just completed a complete renovation of the cottage, and it looks FABULOUS!! You will love the open floor plan, artistic ceramic tile floors, restful screened-in back porch, and lovely decorating throughout. And the just-completed multi-level deck addition with cooking, dining, and lounging areas is to die for!!

With both ocean and marsh views, your cottage offers the best of both worlds, and provides a private setting perfect for a family vacation, a reunion of good friends, or a special event.

When you rent this cottage, you will find a true island sanctuary located on a low-country coastal island known for its abundant wildlife, pristine beaches, friendly people, and rich cultural history.

Casual but Elegant Accommodations

The spacious living area in the Daufuskie Cottage includes a family-style table that will serve as the gathering place for meals cooked in your fully-equipped kitchen. Flat screen TVs in the main living area and in every bedroom, as well as Wi-Fi connection, ensure that you can stay connected to the rest of the world…but only if you choose to do so! Each spacious bedroom is tastefully decorated with queen-sized beds: One in the master BR, and two in each of the additional BRs.

You may want to start your morning by sipping coffee and and watching an Atlantic Ocean sunrise from your front porch. Later, grab a good book and head for your restful screened-in back porch or your backyard hammock. At the end of the day, gather the family or your friends on the beautiful open deck area to enjoy an island sunset, dinner cooked on your gas grill, and cocktails. And all of this while watching a Blue Heron or Wood Stork soar over ancient oaks draped with Spanish Moss.

A secluded ocean beach is steps away from your cottage, and many of our visitors especially enjoying visiting during nesting season of the endangered Loggerhead Turtles.

The Daufuskie Cottage is one of the few Melrose beach cottages that has a working gas fireplace. (Most beach cottage fireplaces are now decorative only.)

The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. The resort is the home of a Great White Egret rookery, where you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. A nest of American Bald Eagles can be found behind the inn, and now and then vigilant visitors can actually catch sight of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.

Our island is also great for bikes and old-fashioned walking.

Please note that a well-behaved canine member of the family will be considered. Manager must review pet requests, and the guest will need to guarantee that the dog is housebroken, is not destructive, will not be getting on furniture, and that every effort will be made to leave the property upon checkout looking like no pet had been staying there. A pet fee is required.
