Daufuskie History

The Rob Kennedy Historic Trail

Developed by the Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation, the trail contains numerous landmarks of great historic and cultural importance. This is a great way to spend a day exploring the island on golf cart or bike. You can download a brochure and trail map below or pick one up at many locations round the island.

The Daufuskie Island Museum

The museum is comprised of two  buildings which have been restored by the Daufuskie Historical Foundation . The Jane Hamilton School, formerly used as the school for children living on the north end of the island, is currently home to the Gullah Learning Center and the Daufuskie Island Community Library. It also serves as the polling location for Daufuskie's elections precinct.

The museum's days and hours are: Tues-Sat,
1:00  pm - 4:00 pm. For more information go to www.daufuskiemuseum.org.

Bloody Point Lighthouse &
Silver Dew Winery

Make your way to the intersection of Beach Road and Benjie’s Point to explore both of these treasures. This recently restored landmark provides interesting historical artifacts and a video about the history of the lighthouse. There is also an outside walking tour showcasing traditional island crops such as indigo. There is a very nice little gift shop inside the lighthouse, and wine is sold at the shop. Open most days between 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
